The Hypnotherapy Process from Initial Consultation to Outcome
Book an Initial Consultation Hypnotherapy / Discovery Session
Begin your journey towards feeling calmer and more confident by booking an Initial Consultation. In this session, I’ll explain how Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy works, introduce some of the neuroscience behind thought patterns and behaviours, and answer any questions you may have.
It’s also a chance to explore your goals and see if this approach feels right for you. For clients aged 16–17, a parent will usually attend the session.
Supporting you and working together
We will work together to explore your needs. This is a collaborative process, and together we’ll agree on a flexible plan for sessions that feels right for you.
Our hypnotherapy sessions are structured, positive and forward-looking. We’ll explore practical steps and strategies that may support the changes you would like to make in your life.
Hypnotherapy is not a quick fix, and progress often depends on your own willingness to engage with the process. My role is to guide and support you throughout, helping you focus on your strengths and goals as you move forward.
Supporting positive change
Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy sessions focus on the strengths you already possess. Together, we explore your resources and consider possible solutions that can support you in moving towards the life you would like.
We review progress regularly and adjust the pace of sessions to suit your needs. As you begin to feel closer to your goals, you may decide to leave more time between sessions, giving you the space to practise and consolidate what you’re working on.
Taking things forward
We’ll review your progress together and decide on the right time to bring sessions to a close. Some people prefer a shorter block of sessions, while others continue for longer - it depends on your goals and what feels right for you. Certain issues may be explored over fewer sessions, while others benefit from more time and practice.
Some clients also choose to return for occasional top-up sessions as part of their ongoing wellbeing routine — a bit like checking in with a coach to keep building on what you’ve already achieved.
What to expect in a Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy Session: Talking Therapy & Hypnosis/Trance
Psychotherapy / ’Talking’ Therapy
Our sessions will start with non-invasive talking therapy.
I’ll guide you in envisioning your desired future, exploring potential solutions, and setting attainable goals.
Together, we'll prioritise discovering how you want to feel (i.e feeling calmer, rather than anxious), focusing on forward-thinking strategies (the solutions) - visualising your ideal future!
While we may touch on the past occasionally, my main aim is to steer you away from dwelling on the problem and towards a preferred outcome, allowing you to establish clear achievable goals and identifying the steps towards reaching these.
Through visualising these solutions, the mind begins to create new neurological pathways, reshaping and re-programming thoughts, emotions, and behaviours toward achieving the desired outcome (related to want you want to achieve through therapy) - your ideal future!
Depending on your goals, your sessions could involve elements of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), as appropriate.
This part typically lasts around 30 minutes.
Hypnosis / Trance
The second half involves me gently guiding you into a state of deep relaxation, commonly known as trance/hypnosis.
You can sit up or recline back – whatever feels most comfortable. And yes, trance/hypnosis works just as effectively online as it does face to face.
In this relaxed state, your mind becomes highly receptive to positive suggestions and imagery, enabling you to tap into your subconscious mind with ease.
Think of it as a state of highly focused attention.
Your conscious mind is quietened, as you are detached from external attention and critical thinking, allowing your unconscious mind to deeply focus on thoughts and suggestions (the solutions we discussed) that might be useful to you.
Making those solutions a reality, that your mind will often reject.
After each session, you'll find yourself leaving a little lighter and brighter than when you first arrived.
This positive momentum will stay with you as you continue on your journey of growth and transformation.
